Equine Podiatry Services & Prices
There's a few different Equine Podiatry services that I offer. I've listed them here, with prices, but if there's anything else you think you need feel free to contact me. There's no harm in asking, right?
Full Consultation
A full consultation, includes a posture, gait, health and environment analysis, a balanced trim, nutritional and exercise advice, a written report detailing the ongoing strategy for your horse, and boot fitting as required. Full support is given between appointments via phone or email.
Everything discussed will be written down in a report for you to keep.
For a more detailed explanation of what a Full Consultation includes and why, take a look at the SOUND Strategy.
A Full Consultation take 45 minutes to an hour
Cost: £55
Area Covered & Call Out Fee
Unless travelling abroad, I don’t charge a call out fee, I've included travel costs in my consultation fee to make it easier for everyone to know where they are.
I cover Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and parts of Hertfordshire and Gloucestershire.
Initial Consultation
If you’d like to know a little bit more without committing to changing anything just yet, then an Initial Consultation might be just the thing for you. It’s a brief introduction for all of us so you can decide whether you think we’d all make a good team, and get you where you want to go.
I’ll come out and meet you and your horse in person, have a look at your environment, assess your feed and exercise regime and give you an idea of what to expect, and what to look out for. An Initial Consultation should take about 20 minutes. I’ll leave you with a written report of everything we’ve discussed and you can think it over or if you decide you want me to get started, we can turn it into a full consultation. Either way is just fine with me 🙂
I don’t trim as part of an Initial Consultation. It wouldn’t be good for your horse to have so many changes in their trimming regime if you haven’t yet made up your mind as to which method of hoof care you want to follow.
Cost: £45
Boot Measuring and Guidance
I can measure for boots for you and advise you on which boots to get. I don’t stock boots, as there’s so many on the market, I simply wouldn’t have room to carry them all. The delivery times for online ordering of boots is really fast (usually 2 - 3 days, sometimes next day) so this is rarely an issue. This would be included in the Full Consultation if it was necessary. If you’d like a one off Boot Measuring that’s ok too.
Cost: £45 (included with a Full Consultation)
Alternatively, my hoof boot measuring guide is available on Amazon
Shoe Removal
If your horse is shod when we start, I can remove the shoes for you, that’s not a problem.
Cost: Included in the Full Consultation
I don't remove shoes without doing a full consultation
Lotions, Potions & Pads
I carry a basic stock of therapeutic pads, disinfectants, and other useful hoof care products, which I can supply if you’d like them.
Behavioural Training
While I don’t do behavioural on it’s own anymore, there are those times when it’s more productive to work on getting the horse to pick their feet up without stress and injury to any of the involved parties, than it is to trim them. At these times, with your agreement of course, I’ll down tools, and work with your horse using sympathetic methods so they can learn that being trimmed isn’t the worst thing in the world.
It’s not possible to trim a hoof well while it’s still in motion, so I consider training of this sort to be included somewhere in the remit of what I do. That said, it’s not entirely my responsibility and you will have to work on it too. You’ll find you have to work on it regardless of who you employ to trim your horses feet!
If you feel your horse may have some reservations about being trimmed or having their feet handled by someone they haven’t met yet, please let me know, so I can arrange your appointment for a suitable time.
I’ll have allowed an hour for the Full Consultation so I’ll have an hour available to work with your horse and give you exercises to be practicing before the next visit.
Cost: £55
